This is a great tool for installing frets, comes fitted with two hard nylon faces and spare extra-hard (yellow plastic) and medium (brown polyurethane) screw-in faces. The durable non-marring faces are exactly what you need to be able to firmly hammer in fretwire of all types without damaging it.

Made by the most respected manufacturer of soft faced hammers, Thor of Birmingham, UK. Beautifully balanced, at 250grammes with a 250mm ash handle and chrome plated zinc head, weighty enough for a good strike but not so heavy as to cause fatigue and strain in the hand and wrist. The 25mm head is just the right size to accurately strike fretwire, even where frets are close together right at the top of the fretboard, and the gently domed heads with radiussed edges greatly reduce the risk of inadvertantly striking and marring the fingerboard. We've found that the nylon head is just right in terms of hardness, but if you want an extra-firm strike, the yellow face is a little harder, and for a gentler strike with a little bit more rebound under the hand, the softer brown head will do the job. This allows you to tailor the hammer to your own preferences. 

It's also useful for jobs such as tapping in string ferrules and machinehead bushings, and any task that needs a firm blow with a softer striking surface than a normal steel hammer. A must for every guitar maker's workshop.
